Bottom Line Up Front. Some links on Garrison Ledger are affiliate or partner links. If you sign up for a product through one of those links we may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. Those commissions help keep the site running. They do not determine what we recommend or how we rate partners, and they never influence the content of any guide.
Every link that triggers a commission is labeled inline with the text "(partner link)", rendered in a boxed callout with a "Recommended partner / Sponsored" header. The partner callout is visually distinct from editorial prose so a reader skimming a guide can immediately tell which elements are sponsored. The anchor tag itself carriesrel="sponsored nofollow" per FTC guidance; that tells search engines and link checkers the same thing the visible label tells you.
The first time any partner-containing page loads for a new visitor, a site-wide banner explains the relationship before you scroll into the content. You can dismiss the banner once you've read it; it is never used as a paywall or content gate.
We explicitly do not place affiliate links on guides covering sensitive topics. That includes (non-exhaustive):
The list is enforced in code, not policy-by-promise — any guide tagged with a sensitive topic, or explicitly listed by the editor, fails a gate before any callout can render. Adding a new sensitive-topic guide automatically removes it from affiliate rotation.
Partners are selected by the editor based on fit for the military audience, not by commission rate. We only ship a partner when all of the following are true:
Editorial guides are written first; partners are added second, only where the partner's product matches content that already existed. We do not accept partner-sponsored content; we do not accept gift cards, trips, or other incentives in exchange for placement.
Guide rankings, warnings, recommendations, calculator logic, and "Ask Military Expert" responses are authored without regard to which partner links appear on the page. Partner status never moves a product up in a ranking, softens a warning, or changes the output of a calculator. If a partner's practices become misaligned with the audience's interest, we pause the partner immediately — the admin panel can remove a partner from every guide within a single request, without a site redeploy.
When you click a partner link we pass a short string ("sub-ID") to the partner network. The sub-ID encodes the guide slug, the placement inside the guide, and an optional A/B-test variant. Example: sub_id=pcs-180-day-financial-timeline::inline::a. It does not contain your name, email, Clerk user ID, Garrison Ledger account ID, IP address, or any PII. It lets us match our own click record against the partner's conversion dashboard; it does not let the partner identify you personally.
For cookie behavior once you land on the partner's site, see the partner's own privacy policy — we do not set or read third-party cookies on their behalf.
Questions about this policy, or a concern about a specific partner, should go to support@garrisonledger.com. Editorial complaints are reviewed by the editor directly, not by anyone with a commercial interest in the outcome.
